Bucovina Peace Park: A First Meeting with Archbishop Calinic

In August 2026, we had the honour of a first meeting with His Eminence Calinic, Archbishop of Suceava and Rădăuți. We presented the Bucovina Peace Park initiative and the progress the project has made so far.

We spoke about peace, about the forests and communities of Bucovina, about the natural and cultural heritage of this region, and about the role the Church can play in a project built for the generations to come.

Why the Church belongs in a Peace Park

We believe a Peace Park in Bucovina can only find its true meaning with the Church at its side. The monasteries of Putna and Sucevița are not only spiritual landmarks of Bucovina; they are part of the deep identity of this land.

His Eminence is now considering our proposal for cooperation and our invitation to join the initiative.

Slowly, but surely

What matters is that one more step has been taken for a positive initiative born on that sad day in February 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine once again. A transboundary Peace Park in the Carpathians, along the border between Ukraine and Romania, is by no means an easy undertaking. Progress is slow, but it is steady.

This is how great projects happen: they begin with an idea, an open door and a willingness to listen. And when the idea gains support, it becomes an institution.
